Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She became chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. She covered many notable reports, including weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
